Who We Are
Mishawaka Troop Town is a community built to serve veterans with dignity, purpose, and consistent support. We exist to provide more than just housing. We create an environment where veterans can rebuild their lives, develop new skills, and find a renewed sense of direction and belonging. Everything we do is rooted in respect for the people we serve and a commitment to walk alongside them in their next chapter.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to support veterans by providing housing, resources, and community, while equipping them to live healthier lives and actively engage in the world around them. We are committed to meeting real needs with practical support, while honoring the service and sacrifice of every individual who walks through our doors.
Our story
Mishawaka Troop Town was founded in late 2019 by three veterans: Jim Metherd, Dan Gann, and Warren Seegers.
The organization was founded on a simple belief: those who have served our country deserve to be supported with the same commitment they gave to others.
We saw a growing need within our community. Veterans facing homelessness, transition challenges, and a lack of support were too often left to navigate life on their own. More specifically, we learned that our community had about 50 homeless veterans at the time.
We simply could not sit on the sidelines and ignore this problem that continuously affected veterans right before our eyes. And so, we launched a community project to do something about it. That project grew and evolved into Mishawaka Troop Town, and the team set out to provide housing and services necessary to help homeless veterans return to a productive and meaningful life.
They had given everything for us, and that sacrifice was met with abandonment in their moments of need. Mishawaka Troop Town was created to change that.
By September 2021, the organization had secured the property located next to VFW Post 360 on Jefferson Blvd. in Mishawaka and had begun construction on a campus of 8 homes. The community rallied around the project through individual monetary donations and sponsorship of Honor Bricks. Many local businesses and organizations pledged or gave in-kind donations and/or services.
What started as a vision to provide housing has grown into a mission to provide stability, structure, and opportunity. Today, Mishawaka Troop Town continues to serve veterans by offering a place where they are not only supported, but truly valued.
